An instrument of interdisciplinary cooperation between faculties, the Institute is the legacy of a tradition of excellence in international studies at Université Laval. It was created in 1994, replacing the Centre québécois de relations internationales. Université Laval recognized the need for a center capable of bringing together research in international issues. Today, the Institute is a place of interdisciplinary synergy, as it brings together researchers, professors, and students from diverse disciplines. Aside from teaching and research, the Institute is also responsible for the diffusion of knowledge, through publications and organizing presentations, conferences, and symposiums. Furthermore, it is a center of debate on international issues and on Canada's and Quebec's role in the world. The in-house newsletter Échos de l'Institut depicts three times a year the members' activities.
